Although scientists have discovered thousands of Trojan asteroids accompanying other planets, only one Earth-Trojan has been identified to date, asteroid 2010 TK7. Scientists predict that there should be more Trojans sharing Earth’s orbit, but they are difficult to detect from Earth as they appear near the sun on the Earth’s horizon.
“Because the Earth’s fourth Lagrange point is relatively stable, it is possible that remnants of the material that built Earth are trapped within it,” said Dante Lauretta. “So this search gives us a unique opportunity to explore the primordial building blocks of Earth.”
The search commences today and continues through Feb. 20. On each observation day, the spacecraft’s MapCam camera will take 135 survey images that will be processed and examined by the mission’s imaging scientists at the University of Arizona, Tucson. The study plan also includes opportunities for MapCam to image Jupiter, several galaxies, and the main belt asteroids 55 Pandora, 47 Aglaja and 12 Victoria.
Whether or not the team discovers any new asteroids, the search is a beneficial exercise. The operations involved in searching for Earth-Trojan asteroids closely resemble those required to search for natural satellites and other potential hazards around Bennu when the spacecraft approaches its target in 2018. Being able to practice these mission-critical operations in advance will help the OSIRIS-REx team reduce mission risk once the spacecraft arrives at Bennu.

Bertha, also known as Big Bertha, is a 57-foot-diameter (17.4 m) tunnel boring machine built specifically for the Washington State Department of Transportation's (WSDOT) Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement tunnel project in Seattle.[1] It was made by Hitachi Zosen Sakai Works in Osaka, Japan, and the machine's assembly was completed in Seattle in June 2013. Tunnel boring began on July 30, 2013, with the machine originally scheduled to complete the tunnel in December 2015.

How Bennu got its name
When Puzio heard about the naming contest, he was reading a series of mythological fiction books by the author Rick Riordan. The first thing he did was research the god Osiris, the mission's acronym-enhanced namesake (OSIRIS-REx stands for Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security-Regolith Explorer).According to ancient mythology, Bennu was the manifestation of the god Osiris on Earth, taking the form of a heron—a slender bird. OSIRIS-REx looks particularly bird-like with its solar panels and sample arm deployed; hence, Bennu was a perfect fit.
"Bennu covered so many aspects of the project," said OSIRIS-REx principal investigator Dante Lauretta, speaking with Puzio and Planetary Society senior editor Emily Lakdawalla in 2013. "We were especially impressed with how you compared it to the spacecraft."
Perhaps not surprisingly, Puzio's favorite school subjects include math and science. And while he says the naming contest has certainly piqued his interest in spaceflight, he also continues to have a penchant for naming things after mythological stories. He has a dog named Indy, for Indiana Jones, and another named Set, for the Egyptian god of chaos and destruction.

In July/August 2020, OSIRIS-REx will approach Bennu and execute its touch-and-go – or TAG – maneuver. A mechanical arm that functions like a combination sample scoop and pogo stick will be extended from the spacecraft. The spacecraft will slowly approach the asteroid until the sample head at the end of the arm gives a gentle “high five” to the surface. The maneuver may be executed up to three times, and OSIRIS-REx could leave Bennu with up to 4.4 pounds of sample material from the asteroid.

CNN reported that the China National Space Administration (CNSA) aims to send a probe in orbit around Mars while running fully functioning senders and rovers on the Red Planet's surface by 2020. The agency, alongside China's Lunar and Deep Space exploration, currently hosts the name and logo contest.
The names in the shortlist mostly feature beasts and figures typical of Chinese mythological themes, alongside those that relate to the nature of space exploration. GB Times provided a list of the shortlisted names:

Falcon Heavy (FH), previously known as the Falcon 9 Heavy, is a super heavy lift space launch vehicle being designed and manufactured by SpaceX. The Falcon Heavy is a variant of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle and will consist of a standard Falcon 9 rocket core, with two additional strap-on boosters derived from the Falcon 9 first stage.[9] This will increase the low Earth orbit (LEO) payload to 54.4 tonnes, compared to 22.8 tonnes for a Falcon 9 full thrust. Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and it would restore the possibility of flying crewed missions to the Moon or Mars.
Following the Falcon 9 CRS-7 failure investigation in 2015, repeated rocket development delays, and given a very busy Falcon 9 launch manifest in 2016, the first Falcon Heavy launch is now expected in early 2017.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s latest proof-of-concept project is called the Membrane Optical Imager for Real-Time Exploitation (MOIRE), and would provide real-time images and video of any place on Earth at any time — a capability that, so far, only exists in the realm of movies and science fiction. The details of this huge eye-in-the-sky look like something right out of science fiction, as well, and it would be interesting to determine if it could have applications for astronomy as well.

Solar Probe Plus or Solar Probe+, previously NASA Solar Probe, is a planned robotic spacecraft to probe the outer corona of the Sun.[2] It will approach to within 8.5 solar radii (5.9 million kilometers or 3.67 million miles) to the 'surface' (photosphere) of the Sun.[2] The project was announced as a new mission start in the fiscal 2009 budget year. On May 1, 2008 Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory announced it will design and build the spacecraft, on a schedule to launch it in 2015.[3]The launch date has since been pushed back to 2018,[4] with the Delta IV Heavy as the launch vehicle.[1]

It's very common for spacecraft to use gravity assists to reduce their fuel requirements (which saves on launch weight and therefore money). But the tradeoff for Solar Probe Plus will be time as it flies seven times by the planet Venus between 2018 and 2024. It's only after the seventh flyby that Solar Probe Plus will be close enough to the sun to do all of the science that researchers desire. That said, the spacecraft will not be idle during this time. You can bet it will be looking at the star from afar, and that when it flies by Venus at least some science instruments will be turned on to look at the planet. The probe will be launched by an Atlas 551 rocket with a solid propergol Star48 stage modified to be able to reach an escape velocity of 12.6 km/s. The probe will use 7 times the gravity assist of Venus to reduce progressively its distance to the perihelion until it passes at a distance of 6 million km from the Sun at least three times. The probe will pass for the first time the nearer to the Sun 6 years after its launch, thus in 2024. The two other passages should happen in one year. The final orbit period will be of 88 days, identical to Mercury. The probe will have a carbon shield to protect it from the solar flux.
