Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong leaves deadly path in Philippines
Fung-Wong, which means "phoenix" in English, was centred about 630km southwest of Taipei yesterday morning, moving northwards at about 18.5km/h, and could affect eastern provinces on the mainland.
Fujian authorities said Fung-Wong's impact was already being felt by yesterday morning, with gusts of up to 88km/h recorded in one island in the province.

Tropical Storm Fung-Wong leaves 200,000 displaced in Philippines, heads for Taiwan
Tropical storms regularly hit the Philippines, with Fung-Wong the second to hit in two weeks.
Last year, typhoon Haiyan struck in the central Philippines, killing more 6,300 people. An average of 20 typhoons hit the country every year.

Maven launched 11/18/13 exactly 5 years before Osiris reaches Bennu, initiating the 2018 phoenix storm before Insight arrives 1 week later!
Arrival at Bennu will be marked around November 18, 2018 when OSIRIS-REx arrives at a distance of five Kilometers where the approach will be halted for a period of tandem flying at the 5km distance.
The new launch period for the mission begins May 5, 2018, with a Mars landing scheduled for Nov. 26, 2018.
InSight's landing site is Elysium Planitia, a flat, smooth plain selected not for its surface features, but for safety considerations. InSight's purpose is to study the interior of Mars, not the surface. Thus, in the selection of a landing site, what's on the surface mattered less on this mission than for previous rover missions focused on the geology.
Planitia is Latin for a flat surface, geometric plane or flatness or a plain. Elysium is from the ancient Greek name for an afterlife paradise, usually referred to in English as the Elysian Fields.

NASA's Mars Odyssey and newly arrived MAVEN spacecraft (short for Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution), India's Mangalyaan orbiter and Europe's Mars Express probe were also slated to observe the encounter from orbit. MAVEN is especially suited to study any interaction between Siding Spring's dust and Mars' upper atmosphere, which could reveal insights about the Red Planet's air.
