Taizicheng (Chinese太子城pinyinTàizǐchéng) is a village in Sitaizui (四台嘴), Chongli District of Zhangjiakou in the northwest of Hebei Province, China.[1][2] Its name means "City of the Crown Prince", and archaeological excavations carried out between May and November 2017 uncovered the remains of an imperial palace of the Jin dynasty (1115–1234). It is thought that this was the summer palace for Emperor Zhangzong of Jin (r. 1189–1208), which is named Tai He Palace in the History of Jin.[3][4]

Zhangjiakou was historically known to Europeans as Kalgan (喀拉干Kālāgàn) until the mid 20th century. This name derives from the Mongolian name of the city, Cighulaltu qaghalgha.svg, "Čiɣulaltu qaɣalɣa" (Classical Mongolian), "Chuulalt haalga" (modern Mongolian) or shorter, Qaghalghan.svg, "Qaghalghan" (Classical Mongolian), "Haalgan" (modern Mongolian), which means "the gate" (in the Great Wall). In Manchu, the city is known as Imiyangga Jase.svg (Imiyangga jase).

Because of its strategic position above and northwest of Beijing, Zhangjiakou has been nicknamed "Beijing's Northern Door".
