Samara starts work on 2018 World Cup stadium

On 21 July a ceremony was held in Samara to mark the start of construction work on a new stadium that will host FIFA World Cup™ matches in 2018. A ceremony in which a capsule was laid in the foundations of the future arena was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who also inspected the site where work will soon start on the construction of the stadium and addressed young students from Samara sports schools, who had come to witness the historic moment.
For the symbolic laying of the capsule, which contained messages from Samara residents to future generations, Vladimir Putin invited young sportspeople onto the stage, some of which could possibly be performing at international arenas in the coming years.

The very first working title of the project of the future main Samara football stadium is “spheroid”. The bizarre name does not disagree with its appearance – it’s quite ordinary stands, covered with an original dome. This “precious stone” of interlocked powerful metal structures at the highest point will reach a height of 80 meters (according to other sources – 60 m).
The facade of the future stadium is a transparent dome that will make the arena look like an object from space. The project is symbolic for Samara, a city that plays an important role in the world history of space exploration.

The OSIRIS-REx mission uses an Atlas V launch vehicle built and operated by United Launch Alliance. The configuration used will be the 411 comprised of the Common Core Booster powered by a Russian-built RD-180 engine with the trusted RL-10C-powered Centaur sitting on top.

In September 2016 the American “Atlas 5” launcher powered by the Russian RD-180 engine should launch a space probe to Bennu asteroid, “The Voice of Russia” reports.
Within 2 years OSIRIS-Rex (Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer) will approach the asteroid with diameter of 500 m and start to fly around it to choose the site for sampling.
Then “OSIRIS” will hover straight near the surface of Bennu, take from 60 gr to 2 kg of soil and make its way back to Earth.

The election results were announced on 22 October 2016, in the Evening Urgant on the Channel One Russia. Wolf, named Zabivaka, scored 53% of the vote, ahead of Tiger (27%). Cat, with 20% of the vote, was the third. More than 1 million people participated in the voting, which took place during September 2016 in the FIFA platforms, as well as during the live broadcast on Channel One, where the results of creative competition were announced.[1]
The tournament’s Official Emblem was revealed on February 3, 2016. The shape of the tournament’s trophy inspired the design of the emblem, which is decorated with the Firebird, a magical bird in Russian folklore.
The Confederations Cup has no official mascot (the mascot for the 2018 World Cup is Zabivaka the wolf).
